Florist Profile Sheryl

Sheryl Watkin

(not just an owner)

Sheryl… wardrobe is 99% black with 1% splash of colour, loves bubbles, good music and Granny time. Favourite flower is Bianca Rose.

Sheryl Watkin has been a florist for over 40 years. She trained locally, then from the age of 18, owned Nicol’s Flower Shop in Tawa for 25 years. Next was starting up the well know Black Rose at North City Shopping Centre with daughter and florist Tracey. Then Sheryl expanded to Plimmerton to be part of the community and work closely with customers and businesses in the local area. You will find Sheryl at Your Wellington Florist in Steyne Ave, Plimmerton.

Plimmerton has a real village appeal and this reflects in the love of floristry that Sheryl holds dear to her heart. Qualifications are important to Sheryl and during her time as a florist she has obtained her Junior, Senior and Diploma with New Zealand Professional Florists. Working with the high standards of NZPF gave Sheryl the confidence that her floristry was to the highest standard she could attain. Being invited onto the Executive of NZPF and then being voted in as President only allowed Sheryl’s passion for floristry to grow.

Interflora membership has been part of Sheryl’s floral career the entire time from 1976. Again, putting those standards to the forefront of running a top florist business.

Some of Sheryl’s accomplishments:

  • Interflora member for 42 years
  • Interflora board member
  • Interflora district 4 chairman
  • Head of membership committee
  • Nominated Florist Inspector
  • Past President of Interflora Pacific Unit
  • Interflora Judge

Sheryl is more than a florist and this is reflected in her passion and the service she gives to her customers. She is always driven to be the best, have the best flowers and create the best designs. “In floristry you are always learning, always a student.”

Nicola Robinson

(not just a florist)

Nicola – loves cats, jewelry, body art and obscure movies. Favorite flower is a mystery at the moment as she gets to know the flowers of each season.

Your Wellington Florist welcomes Nicola Robinson to the professional florist team. Nicola’s training in conjunction with the Open Polytechnic has given her a great start to the world of floristry. Your Wellington Florist has a passion to be leaders in the florist industry and Nicola coming on board has embraced her creativity in art and design.

Originally from Plimmerton she has taken some time over the years living in Australia and traveling through Europe, the UK, USA and Asia, returning home in March 2020, she is now enjoying the community that Plimmerton is well known for. Nicola’s background is in make-up artistry, winning two national make-up competitions, one taking her on a trip to Samoa. Her creative passion has extended to making headpieces and fascinators for burlesque performers, drag queens, brides and those attending race days.

Nicola is a quick learner and has already developed her floristry skills to a high level. She loves the market flowers arriving and arranging the stock when it comes in, and challenging herself with making bouquets with the new stock of the changing seasons. Emily Cox

Emily Cox

(new florist in training)

Emily – loves the beach, summertime, our dog Jasper and spending time with family. Favourite flower is Dahlia.

In her spare time you’ll find her at the beach or with a paintbrush in hand upcycling old furniture and bringing it back to life with a splash of colour and intricate designs, creating hand painted mandalas or out pottering in the garden.

She loves walking in the Plimmerton community, meeting new people and greeting customers as they pop by the shop. The best part is when customers pop in and leave with a smile… Emily is currently studying floristry through the Open Polytechnic and learning all the tricks of the trade with Sheryl at Your Wellington Florist.

Emily finds it exciting coming to work, as each week there are new and different flowers with the ever changing seasons.
